welcome to the german alps, nestled in southern bavaria along the border with austria you will find some of the prettiest mountains in europe 😌

while im sure you may have seen some photos from the german alps (you definitely have if you’ve been following me for a while) these photos are a little different 🧚🏼‍♀️

you may notice that none of these photos (besides the first one) are of “the money shot” aka the views we often hike for 🍃

instead, these are a compilation of my favorite photos from the trails instead, those in between moments when you are hiking towards a view you have been looking forward to seeing ✨

when planning hikes, we often only think of the “reward view” at the top, (guilty as charged) but let this post be a reminder to us all that the journey is just as much a part of the destination, as there is beauty all around us in nature ⛰️

with hiking season approaching remember to take as many breaks as possible and enjoy the views along the way - they are just as beautiful as the peak itself 😌

after visiting in both winter and summer, this village is at the top of my list when it comes to the most incredible fairytale villages in germany 🥹

in case you don’t believe me - it has won countless titles as germanys prettiest village and I think it’s pretty easy to see why 💌

disclaimer: this is a popular spot to visit so you probably won’t be alone while visiting, therefore I recommend arriving as early as possible to also get some time to explore without the crowds (but also to embrace the crowds as they are part of the atmosphere)🧚🏼‍♀️

how to get here✨
🚊public transport: it takes 1 hour to get to rothenburg ob der tauber by public transportation from Nuremberg

1️⃣ take the train from nuremberg central station to ansbach

2️⃣ from here switch and take the train to steinach bei rothenburg ob der tauber

3️⃣ lastly from here take the train to rothenburg ob der tauber

while it may seem complicated I promise that it’s fine, you only have a few minutes to switch platforms between the trains but overall this was no problem since they are timed to fit visitors coming from nuremberg🌞

I recommend buying the train ticket in advance though for the full ride because you do not have time to buy new tickets on the stops 🤭

🚗 by car: I recommend parking at “P4 galgentor” as it’s located right by the old city and has a lot of spaces, a day ticket should cost around 7€

🚗 by car: it takes an hour to get here from Berlin. Park at the large space in Dammstraße 71, where it will cost you 7 euros for a day ticket 😇

🚂 by train: take RE2 from Ostkreuz to Lübbenau which will take around 50 minutes. from the station you can actually walk to all of the attractions🫶🏼

this is an absolute gem and one of the prettiest spring gardens in england 🌸

it’s located close to bath making it super easy to get here for a day trip 💌

✨ HOW TO ARRIVE ✨

to get here by public transportation simply take the train from bath spa to freshford (10 minutes) 🚂

then follow the countryside path to the gardens which takes around 25-30 minutes 🌿

it’s an easy walk filled with lovely views so don’t let it deter you from visiting ☀️

✨ THINGS TO KNOW ✨

🌷 the garden is open seasonally from the 1st of April until the 30th of September

📆 the gardens are closed on mondays and tuesdays

⏳opening hours are from 11:00 - 16:00 (last entry at 15:00)

💸 it costs £12 per adult to enter and it’s best to reserve your ticket in advance as there is limited capacity

💐 the garden is filled with stunning flower displays and beautiful architecture so plan to spend at least 2 hours here

🍝 there is a restaurant here that’s perfect to stop at for lunch but note that reservations are usually a must

🌸 I recommend visiting between mid april to mid may for peak wisteria season (it adds extra magic to the gardens 🧚🏼‍♀️)

📍iford manor

this is an absolute gem and one of the prettiest spring gardens in england 🌸

it’s located close to bath making it super easy to get here for a day trip 💌

✨ HOW TO ARRIVE ✨

to get here by public transportation simply take the train from bath spa to freshford (10 minutes) 🚂

then follow the countryside path to the gardens which takes around 25-30 minutes 🌿

it’s an easy walk filled with lovely views so don’t let it deter you from visiting ☀️

✨ THINGS TO KNOW ✨

🌷 the garden is open seasonally from the 1st of April until the 30th of September

📆 the gardens are closed on mondays and tuesdays

⏳opening hours are from 11:00 - 16:00 (last entry at 15:00)

💸 it costs £12 per adult to enter and it’s best to reserve your ticket in advance as there is limited capacity

💐 the garden is filled with stunning flower displays and beautiful architecture so plan to spend at least 2 hours here

🍝 there is a restaurant here that’s perfect to stop at for lunch but note that reservations are usually a must

🌸 I recommend visiting between mid april to mid may for peak wisteria season (it adds extra magic to the gardens 🧚🏼‍♀️)

located in north yorkshire, knaresborough is super easy to visit as a day trip from york ☀️

✨ HOW TO ARRIVE ✨

to get here by public transport simply take a direct train from york, it’s about 4 stops 🚂

trains run every half an hour and it takes just under 30 minutes to arrive 💭

the train station is also located centrally so once here you can walk everywhere 🧚🏼‍♀️

✨ THINGS TO DO ✨

📍knaresborough castle
a ruined fortress from the 1300’s overlooking the town 🏰

📍 knaresborough castle garden
the garden is filled with blooming flowers and offers the best viewpoint over the town and famous viaduct 📸

📍knaresborough viaduct
this is one of the sights knaresborough is most famous for - and it’s fun to see it from all vantage points 🌸

📍waterside
beautiful promenade by the river with gorgeous views of the viaduct and where you can rent a boat! 🛶

📍bebra gardens
beautifully maintained gardens that are a must when visiting 🌿

📍mother shipton’s cave and petrifying well
one of the most iconic attractions in knaresborough with the main highlight being the petrifying well 🍃

(costs £12 per pedestrian)

📍rent a canoe
this is the best thing you can do in knaresborough on a sunny day! ☀️

📍market place
cute square and where you will find the weekly market on every wednesday! 💌
